Mr. Calhoun has professional experience working with individuals in early adolescence through adulthood and in a variety of settings, ranging from wilderness therapy, therapeutic day schools (middle and high schools), and community mental health. Brian has training and experience with multiple modalities of therapy, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Psychodynamic theory.

Mr Calhoun’s perspective on therapy: I approach therapy from a person-centered and relationship perspective. This means getting to know what strengths and interests a client brings to therapy and utilizing these to help a client reach their goals. I believe clients are not defined by the reasons they seek therapy. I work to help clients separate their sense of themselves from negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, in addition to teaching them positive coping strategies to promote change. Utilizing evidenced-based practices (ACT, CBT, Compassion Focused Therapy), I work with clients to identify their goals and needs while creating a therapeutic approach individually tailored to them, because therapy is not “one size fits all.”

Working with adolescents and young adults as they navigate a time of life with many new transitions, life events, and a period of discovery is what I am passionate about. This process takes trust and open mindedness. In my approach to therapy, I work to create a safe space that is built upon respect and dignity of the individual. I enjoy working with people of diverse backgrounds and celebrate what makes each person unique throughout the therapeutic process. I look forward to helping you learn and grow on your journey of self-exploration.
